The intention he said is to be able to cover 10 million in tax collection next year. Tuitt said that his Ministry is willing to put incentives for businesses for the month of December 2012 for those businesses that show interest in paying their taxes. ScienceDaily (Nov. 29, 2012) ? Borrowing from microfabrication techniques used in the semiconductor industry, MIT and Harvard Medical School (HMS) engineers have developed a simple and inexpensive way to create three-dimensional brain tissues in a lab dish.

The new technique yields tissue constructs that closely mimic the cellular composition of those in the living brain, allowing scientists to study how neurons form connections and to predict how cells from individual patients might respond to different drugs. The work also paves the way for developing bioengineered implants to replace damaged tissue for organ systems, according to the researchers.

"We think that by bringing this kind of control and manipulation into neurobiology, we can investigate many different directions," says Utkan Demirci, an assistant professor in the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST).

Demirci and Ed Boyden, associate professor of biological engineering and brain and cognitive sciences at MIT's Media Lab and McGovern Institute, are senior authors of a paper describing the new technique, which appears in the Nov. 27 online edition of the journal Advanced Materials. The paper's lead author is Umut Gurkan, a postdoc at HST, Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital.

'Unique challenges'

Although researchers have had some success growing artificial tissues such as liver or kidney, "the brain presents some unique challenges," Boyden says. "One of the challenges is the incredible spatial heterogeneity. There are so many kinds of cells, and they have such intricate wiring."

Brain tissue includes many types of neurons, including inhibitory and excitatory neurons, as well as supportive cells such as glial cells. All of these cells occur at specific ratios and in specific locations.

To mimic this architectural complexity in their engineered tissues, the researchers embedded a mixture of brain cells taken from the primary cortex of rats into sheets of hydrogel. They also included components of the extracellular matrix, which provides structural support and helps regulate cell behavior.

Those sheets were then stacked in layers, which can be sealed together using light to crosslink hydrogels. By covering layers of gels with plastic photomasks of varying shapes, the researchers could control how much of the gel was exposed to light, thus controlling the 3-D shape of the multilayer tissue construct.

This type of photolithography is also used to build integrated circuits onto semiconductors -- a process that requires a photomask aligner machine, which costs tens of thousands of dollars. However, the team developed a much less expensive way to assemble tissues using masks made from sheets of plastic, similar to overhead transparencies, held in place with alignment pins.

The tissue cubes can be made with a precision of 10 microns, comparable to the size of a single cell body. At the other end of the spectrum, the researchers are aiming to create a cubic millimeter of brain tissue with 100,000 cells and 900 million connections.

Answering fundamental questions

Because the tissues include a diverse repertoire of brain cells, occurring in the same ratios as they do in natural brain tissue, they could be used to study how neurons form the connections that allow them to communicate with each other.

"In the short term, there's a lot of fundamental questions you can answer about how cells interact with each other and respond to environmental cues," Boyden says.

As a first step, the researchers used these tissue constructs to study how a neuron's environment might constrain its growth. To do this, they placed single neurons in gel cubes of different sizes, then measured the cells' neurites, long extensions that neurons use to communicate with other cells. It turns out that under these conditions, neurons get "claustrophobic," Demirci says. "In small gels, they don't necessarily send out as long neurites as they would in a five-times-larger gel."

In the long term, the researchers hope to gain a better understanding of how to design tissue implants that could be used to replace damaged tissue in patients. Much research has been done in this area, but it has been difficult to figure out whether the new tissues are correctly wiring up with existing tissue and exchanging the right kinds of information.

Another long-term goal is using the tissues for personalized medicine. One day, doctors may be able to take cells from a patient with a neurological disorder and transform them into induced pluripotent stem cells, then induce these constructs to grow into neurons in a lab dish. By exposing these tissues to many possible drugs, "you might be able to figure out if a drug would benefit that person without having to spend years giving them lots of different drugs," Boyden says.

Microsoft Boasts 40 Million Windows 8 Licenses Sold

Once month after the official release of its new operating system, Microsoft has announced that it has sold 40 million licenses for Windows 8. Those numbers are very close to the number of Windows 7 licenses sold one month after release.

TechSpot's Jose Vilches reported, "Microsoft has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses after the operating system's first month of retail availability. Tami Reller, corporate vice president for Windows and Windows Live, revealed the number at a recent investor conference held by Credit Suisse but stopped short of mentioning how many of those came from new PC sales and how many came from end users actually buying upgrades."

InformationWeek's Paul McDougall wrote, "Windows 8 is selling at about the same rate Windows 7 did when that operating system, the best-selling in Microsoft's history, rolled out in late 2010, a Microsoft official said Tuesday. Tami Reller, CFO of Microsoft's Windows division, said the company has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses since it launched the OS on Oct. 26. "The 40 million is roughly in line with Windows 7," said Reller, speaking at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Microsoft has previously said that it sold 60 million Windows 7 licenses during that operating system's first three months on the market."

Time's Harry McCrackentook a more critical look at the numbers, noting,

Microsoft is saying that Windows 8?s first month has been around twice as strong as Windows Vista?s, and four times as strong as Windows XP?s.

Except it?s not that simple. There are more PC users than there were in 2001, when Windows XP shipped, so you?d expect sales in 2012 to be higher. And Microsoft knocked down Windows 8?s upgrade price to $39.99, far less than it?s traditionally charged for new versions of Windows, which should goose sales. And every version of Windows enters a marketplace in a different state of economic health, which presumably impacts the sales of operating-system software.

Basically, so many factors are at play that unless the number of licenses sold is astonishingly low or high, it?s impossible for those of us outside of Microsoft to know whether the figure tells us anything beyond the fact that millions and millions of people and businesses use Windows and buy Windows computers. Which we already knew.

According to ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, "Reller shared a few other stats during her remarks including:

• Microsoft now has certified 1,500 PCs and tablets for Windows 8, up from the 1,000 devices it had certified a month ago at launch.
• The number of apps available in the Microsoft Store has doubled since the launch. (She didn't talk about the total number of Windows Store/Metro Style apps available currently, but WinAppUpdate pinned that number at just over 21,500 worldwide this week.)
• A number of applications available in the Windows Store have crossed the $25,000 revenue mark. (Again, no specifics were shared here.)"

College students more eager for marriage than their parents are

ScienceDaily (Nov. 28, 2012) ? Reaching adulthood certainly takes longer than it did a generation ago, but new research shows one way that parents are contributing to the delay.

A national study found that college students think 25 years old is the "right age" to get married, while a majority of parents feel 25 is still a little too soon. So it's no coincidence that when Justin Bieber said he'd like to wed by 25, Oprah Winfrey urged him to wait longer.

"The assumption has been that the younger generation wants to delay marriage and parents are hassling them about when they would get married," said Brian Willoughby, a professor at Brigham Young University and lead author of the study. "We actually found the opposite, that the parental generation is showing the 'slow down' mindset more than the young adults."

Willoughby and his co-authors in BYU's School of Family Life gathered info from 536 college students and their parents from five college campuses around the country (BYU was not in the sample). As they report in The Journal of Social and Personal Relationships,the scholars found the hesitation is consistent across gender.

"Initially we thought that this might be dads wanting their daughters to delay marriage," Willoughby said. "Moms and dads trended together -- gender wasn't a factor."

One of the driving forces behind parents' restraint is the feeling that their children should get an education first. While they generally feel marriage is important, parents think the "right age" is one year older than what their children say. Excluding teen marriages, research doesn't support the notion that there is an optimal time to tie the knot.

"I think parents have a lot of fear for their kids that makes them want to delay the transitions to adulthood," Willoughby said.

According to Census data, the median age for first marriages is 27. Willoughby says that what people say is the "right age" generally comes a few years before the actual marriage age.

"What happens is that someone thinks that 25 is when they want to get married," Willoughby said. "So at age 25, they start changing their patterns around dating, and it takes two or so years to make the transition."

Though BYU students weren't in Willoughby's sample, the university's own records show about 25 percent of its students are married. Willoughby said that Mormon young adults typically marry about two years younger than their peers nationally and have risen in sync with national trends.

Chad Olsen, a graduate student in BYU's School of Family Life, is a co-author on the new study. Professors Jason Carroll, Larry Nelson and Rick Miller are also co-authors.

OECD urges gradual U.S. fiscal tightening to preserve growth

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tighter fiscal policy in the United States should be implemented gradually, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said on Tuesday as it predicted moderate economic growth next year.

Automatic government spending cuts and tax increases, known as the "fiscal cliff", are set to begin in early 2013, draining about $600 billion from the economy unless the U.S. Congress and Obama administration agree on a plan to soften the blow.

In its latest economic outlook, the OECD said while cutting the large budget deficit was necessary to put the nation on a sustainable fiscal path, this should be done gradually and in the context of a well identified medium-term consolidation plan.

"The pace of consolidation should be gradual so as not to derail the already weak recovery," the OECD said. "If unresolved, the fiscal cliff would generate a significant drop in activity in 2013."

The United States has run budget deficits topping $1 trillion for three straight years, and it is on course to do so for a fourth.

The Paris-based OECD forecast growth in the world's largest economy of 2.2 percent from the fourth quarter of this year to the fourth quarter of next year, up from a projected 1.8 percent this year. Output is seen expanding 3.2 percent in 2014.

Annual gross domestic product expanded by an average of 2.1 percent over the last two years. The OECD forecasts assume the reduction in the U.S. budget deficit is limited to 1.5 percent of GDP in both 2013 and 2014.

But it said economic headwinds will continue to blow from the debt crisis in Europe and slowing global demand.

"The potential credit market disruptions associated with the ongoing crisis in the euro area remain a major concern," the OECD said. "Growth in disposable income will continue to be restrained significantly by the withdrawal of fiscal support."

OUTPUT GAP TO NARROW

But with U.S. economic growth expected to accelerate next year, the output gap -- the difference between the actual output and output at full capacity -- should narrow to 2.5 percent by the end of that year, the OECD predicted.

The output gap is currently 5.9 percent. Underpinning growth this year and in 2014 will be increased household spending, reflecting a turnaround in the housing market, which until recently was the economy's Achilles heel.

"Household balance sheets continue to improve, with equity values recently returning to near cyclical highs and home prices showing a sharp and sustained upturn," the OECD said.

"The gains in net wealth, coupled with low interest rates and a continued easing in lending conditions, should contribute to a pick-up in aggregate demand going forward."

It forecast a gradual improvement in the labor market and projected the unemployment rate falling to 7.5 percent over the course of 2014 from a projected 7.8 percent average in 2013.

The jobless rate was at 7.9 percent in October and almost all the decline from a peak of 10 percent in October 2009 was because of frustrated people giving up the search for work.

Given the still considerable slack in the economy, inflation pressures are likely to remain contained, even though wages could see rapid growth as the labor market improves, the OECD said.

This should help the Federal Reserve to honor its pledge to keep interest rates near record low levels through at least mid-2015.

The OECD forecast the consumer price index rising 1.8 percent over the course of next year and picking up to 2 percent over 2014.

The U.S. central bank, which has held overnight lending rates near zero since December 2008 and pumped about $2.3 trillion into the economy through bond purchases, aims for a 2 percent inflation rate.

"With significant slack in resource utilization and inflation expectations appearing well anchored, this highly accommodative stance of monetary policy is warranted," the OECD said.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ? Disgusted with his performance since coming back from a broken right hand, Kevin Love decided to play without his protective glove Tuesday night against Sacramento.

Despite no extra padding for his healing shooting hand, the All-Star forward played a bruising inside game and rediscovered his outside shot as well.

Love had 23 points and an NBA season-high 24 rebounds to help the Minnesota Timberwolves stop a five-game losing streak by beating the Kings 97-89.

After missing the first nine games this season, Love returned last week. Bothered by the awkwardness of that fingerless padded glove, he shot 35 percent from the field in his first three games. He hit only 19 percent of his 3-point attempts and was just under 65 percent from the free throw line.

Love was unstoppable on the boards Tuesday, but it was the shooting that pleased him most. He went 8 of 17 from the floor and 5 of 6 at the foul line. Although he shot 2 for 8 from 3-point range, Love said most of those attempts were on target and felt good coming out of his hand.

"The glove was pretty restricting for me," Love said. "Every day my hand is getting stronger. The ball still doesn't feel quite right in my hand, but it's getting better."

And for one night, the struggling Timberwolves (6-7) were better as well. They took the lead late in the first quarter and never trailed again.

It helped that Love grabbed an amazing 21 defensive rebounds and helped Minnesota to a 51-36 overall edge on the boards. Love had six points in the fourth quarter and played nearly 44 minutes overall.

"I knew he got a lot of rebounds, but I didn't know how many," Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said. "It was one of the most complete games I've seen him play. He wasn't forcing anything. He passed the ball. He set screens. He did whatever we needed."

Love even benefited from a little luck, tossing in an off-balance 15-footer that went in as the shot clock was winding down to give the Timberwolves a four-point lead with 27 seconds left.

"I went to the bench when they called a timeout and looked at Coach, and he said, 'Just like I drew it up.' We both kind of laughed," Love said.

Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins each scored 20 points for the Kings, who had won two of their previous three games. Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Thornton both had 12.

"He (Love) was everywhere and just going for the ball," Evans said. "Everywhere the ball went it seemed like he was there. He does a good job of that. That's why they had a chance to win, because of the way he was crashing the boards."

Love was clearly a major force, but he had plenty of help as well. Luke Ridnour scored 18 and Nikola Pekovic had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Timberwolves, who had fallen into a tailspin after starting the season 5-2. Andrei Kirilenko had 14 points and Malcolm Lee added 10.

Two free throws by Cousins pulled Sacramento to 91-89 with just under 3 minutes left. But Pekovic got free for a layup off a pass from Kirilenko, and Love followed with his unorthodox shot, giving the Timberwolves a 95-89 lead.

"We were in a tough situation; we needed a win," said Kirilenko, who added six rebounds, five assists and three blocks in 41 minutes. "We were finally able to finish a game with our execution."

A tip-in by Love with 3:12 left was his 24th rebound. Anderson Varejao of Cleveland had the previous high this season with 23 rebounds.

Despite the play of Love, the Kings remained close and pulled to 90-87 when Thomas made a breakaway layup. Fouled on the play, Thomas converted the free throw with just under 3 minutes to play.

Alexey Shved made a pair of 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter and a fast-break dunk by Kirilenko gave Minnesota an 85-76 lead at the 7:03 mark.

Five turnovers in the fourth quarter, several of them at crucial times, hindered the Kings' comeback effort.

CHICAGO New magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research shows that mountain climbers who experience a certain type of high altitude sickness have traces of bleeding in the brain years after the initial incident, according to a study presented today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

High altitude cerebral edema (HACE) is a severe and often fatal condition that can affect mountain climbers, hikers, skiers and travelers at high altitudestypically above 7,000 feet, or 2,300 meters.

HACE results from swelling of brain tissue due to leakage of fluids from the capillaries. Symptoms include headache, loss of coordination and decreasing levels of consciousness.

"HACE is a life-threatening condition," said Michael Knauth, M.D., Ph.D., from the University Medical Center's Department of Neuroradiology in Goettingen, Germany. "It usually happens in a hostile environment where neither help nor proper diagnostic tools are available."

Dr. Knauth and colleagues at the University Hospitals in Goettingen and Heidelberg, Germany, compared brain MRI findings among four groups of mountaineers: climbers with well documented episodes of HACE; climbers with a history of high altitude illness; climbers with a history of severe acute mountain sickness (AMS); and climbers with a history of isolated high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), a life-threatening accumulation of fluid in the lungs that occurs at high altitudes. Two neuroradiologists assessed the brain MRI findings without knowing the status of the mountaineers and assigned a score based on the number and location of any microhemorrhages.

"In most cases, these microhemorrhages are so small that they are only visible with a special MRI technique called susceptibility-weighted imaging," Dr. Knauth said. "With this technique, the microhemorrhages are depicted as little black spots."

The MRI results showed brain microhemorrhages almost exclusively in HACE survivors. Of the 10 climbers with a history of HACE, eight had evidence of microhemorrhages on MRI. The other two had uncertain results. Only two of the remaining 26 climbers were positive for microhemorrhages.

"It was previously thought that HACE did not leave any traces in the brains of survivors," Dr. Knauth said. "Our studies show that this is not the case. For several years after, microhemorrhages or microbleeds are visible in the brains of HACE survivors."

Survivors of the most clinically severe cases of HACE had the most prominent evidence of microhemorrhages on MRI. The bleeds were found predominantly in the corpus callosum, the thick band of nerve fibers that connects the right and left halves of the brain, and showed a characteristic distribution different from other vascular diseases like vasculitis, or blood vessel inflammation.

"The distribution of microhemorrhages is a new and sensitive MRI sign of HACE and can be detected years after HACE," Dr. Knauth said. "We will further analyze our clinical and MRI data on patients with acute mountain sickness, which is thought to be a precursor of HACE."

In the meantime, Dr. Knauth does not think HACE survivors need to give up climbing.

"We cannot give such a strong recommendation," he said. "However, mountaineers who have already experienced HACE once should acclimatize to the altitude very slowly."

New chief of Sarkozy's dispute-racked party named

PARIS (AP) ? A hardliner has been confirmed the new chief of former President Nicolas Sarkozy's conservative party after a recount, but the result is unlikely to end the leadership battle that has fractured the party.

A week after a tight vote left the party in chaos, a special commission on Monday confirmed that Jean-Francois Cope had won leadership of the Union for a Popular Movement, or UMP. According to the recount, he defeated moderate former Prime Minister Francois Fillon by 952 votes, 86,911 to 85,959.

Fillon rejected the recount as "illegal." The commission annulled all votes from at least two voting bureaus because of irregularities.

Cope called for the party to choose "forgiveness instead of division."

Party leadership is a typical step for French politicians who hope to vie for the presidency.

His spot in Olympic sailing history secure, Ben Ainslie will now try to become the first Englishman to hoist the America's Cup in victory.

That would be one silver trophy he'd be eager to accept.

The four-time gold medalist announced his retirement from Olympic sailing early Tuesday, saying it was time to move on to the challenge of trying to end Britain's long drought in the competition for the oldest trophy in international sports, the America's Cup.

Ainslie's decision wasn't a surprise. While he said he wanted to take some time after winning the gold medal in the Finn class at the London Olympics, he's already sailed in two America's Cup World Series regattas with his Ben Ainslie Racing team, finishing second in one of them.

The 35-year-old Ainslie became the most successful Olympic sailor ever when he won his fourth straight gold medal at Weymouth in August. He also won a silver medal at Atlanta in 1996 in his first Olympics.

"When I look back there are so many special memories; from that first medal in Atlanta 16 years ago to carrying the flag at the closing ceremony in London 2012," Ainslie said in a statement. "London was an incredibly special Olympics, competing on home waters and in front of a home crowd, I don't think anything will be able to top that experience. But you have to move forward and it is time to move onto the next challenge in my career."

Ainslie was so successful as an Olympian that he was called Britain's greatest sailor since Admiral Lord Nelson, who was killed while leading his fleet to victory over the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar. A statue of Nelson rises high above London's Trafalgar Square.

Ainslie, known for an intense focus and work ethic, felt that comparison was hype.

"I didn't rescue the nation from the depths of Napoleon Bonaparte," Ainslie said after winning his final Olympic gold. "You do the best you can do in your style of racing."

Ainslie was 19 when he took silver in the 1996 Olympics in a bitter loss to Brazil's Robert Scheidt in the Laser class. Scheidt induced Ainslie into a penalty at the start of the final race and then sailed to gold.

It was the last time Ainslie didn't stand atop the medals podium.

Four years later, Ainslie expertly exacted his revenge on Sydney Harbor to beat Scheidt for the gold.

After moving up to the heavyweight Finn class, Ainslie had another remarkable performance at Athens in 2004. Disqualified from his second-place finish in the second race due to a protest by a French sailor, the British star fought back from 19th overall to win the gold.

Now his racing shifts to bigger, faster boats.

He'll skipper his 45-foot wing-sailed catamaran in the remaining regattas in the America's Cup World Series and then will sail with defending America's Cup champion Oracle Racing in the 34th America's Cup on San Francisco Bay in 2013. It's expected that he'll helm one of Oracle's two 72-foot catamarans in the buildup to the America's Cup match. Oracle suffered a setback when its first 72-foot catamaran capsized on San Francisco Bay in mid-October, destroying its giant wing sail. Oracle's second 72-foot cat is under construction.

Ainslie's goal is to then launch a British challenge for the 35th America's Cup.

Great Britain has never won the America's Cup, which began in 1851 when the schooner America beat a fleet of British ships around the Isle of Wight.

Ainslie lives in Lymington, across the Solent from the Isle of Wight.

"The America's Cup has always been a goal for me," Ainslie said. "With the new format of the America's Cup World Series and the increased commercialization of the event, I feel confident that we can continue to build toward creating a commercially viable team, with the ultimate goal of challenging for the 35th America's Cup."

John Derbyshire, performance director of the Royal Yachting Association, said Ainslie "has nothing left to prove in Olympic terms and there can be no question that he's more than achieved his first goal. It's therefore entirely understandable that he should now want to turn his attentions to the second, and hopefully lead a British team to win the oldest trophy in sport for the very first time."

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh still hasn?t spoken about his, um, interaction with Texans quarterback Matt Schaub on Thanksgiving.? However, Suh has no qualms when it comes to talking about his ambitions.

?I do see multiple Super Bowl rings in my future, especially with the team we have now,? Suh says in an upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.? ?We?re a team where if we don?t make mistakes, we are insanely dangerous.?

Anger and Creativity | Psychology Today

Are angry people more creative? Can becoming angry make you creative? While, the former question relates to the role one?s temperament plays in creativity, the latter relates to a causal relation and asks: Can provoking anger stimulate creativity?

Van Kleef, Anastaspoluou, and Nijstadt (2010) argued that receiving angry feedback from an evaluator could increase ?a focal person?s motivation to perform well? (p.1043) on an idea generation task. They asserted that angry feedback increases task engagement leading to an increased production of ideas, which in turn increases the likelihood of generating a good idea, an expectation consistent with Osborn?s principle of ?quantity breeds quality? (Van Kleef et al., 2010, p. 1043). However, they hypothesized that angry feedback is more likely to be effective with individual?s high, rather than low, on epistemic motivation. Such individuals take angry feedback as an indication of suboptimal performance and a need to work harder on the task. When not performing well, the highs, as opposed to lows, are more intrinsically inclined to look for diagnostic information and make efforts to understand the situation accurately. The highs are less likely to employ stereotypical heuristics and to reject divergent information in problem solving.

Van Kleef et al. found evidence to support their hypothesis that the performance of highs on an idea generation task improved after receiving angry feedback; they not only produced more ideas, but more distinct and unique ideas. The highs spent greater time on task and were more engaged in task than the lows. Van Kleef et al. concluded that angry feedback might be helpful when employees are ?held accountable for their performance? (p. 1046).

A more recent study by Bass, Dreu, and Nijstad (2011) took a different approach in examining the effect of increasing anger or sadness on creativity. They asked participants to write a short essay recalling an episode that made them angry or sad before taking a test of creativity. Thus, in Van Kleef et al.?s study, the expressed angry feedback was specific to task, but in Bass et al.?s study, the aroused anger was not specific to the task participants engaged in afterwards?students simply recalled a past episode that made them angry.

Reviewing literature, Bass et al. noted that some reputable scientists and artists were angry people and that some great scientific discoveries have stemmed from intense rivalries between ?competing laboratories, with their academic directors driven by distrust, anger and frustration? (p. 1107). In contrast to Van Kleef et al.?s observation that anger worked for participants scoring high on epistemic motivation by stimulating greater task engagement and persistence, Bass et al. argued that an angry, compared with a sad or mood-neutral, person, tends to be more distractible and less systematic or structured in approach. The angry person tends to switch from one thought category to another, thereby activating remote concepts stored in memory, and, consequently, thinking divergently. In contrast, sad affect is likely to create a need for structure, attending to detail, and step-by-step analytical or convergent approach to problem solving, thereby reducing access to ?remote concepts in working memory? (p. 1108).

Bass et al. did three experiments and found, as they had expected, that anger, relative to sadness and mood-neutral affect, was associated with a less structured approach to idea generation and enhanced creativity early on, but its effects declined over time. They explained that anger has an immediate energizing effect enhancing creativity, but because of fatigue this energy dissipates rapidly causing a decline in performance over time. They, however, noted an alternative possible explanation that anger may be more short-lived than sad mood, thus its energizing effects may also be short lived.

These studies, as interesting and well executed as they are, raise some important questions about using angry feedback and increasing non task-specific feelings of anger in work situations. Understandably, increased feelings of anger in some situations can lead to greater task engagement or divergent thinking, but are there not better, more civil ways of fostering creativity in people than increasing their feelings of unspecific anger or giving them angry feedback? Do we want more angry people at work? At least, Bass et al.?s study showed that the effects of anger are short-lived; therefore, it would make sense not to arouse anger for sustained creative efforts. However, is it appropriate to arouse anger to produce immediate creativity enhancing effects?

Anger is a normal human emotion and people do get angry, but can anger have dramatic negative effects? Expressions of anger at employees can trigger strong negative reactions possibly leading to withdrawal, grievances, and even workplace violent behavior. Atharva Veda, an ancient Indian scripture, describes anger as one of six psychological foes along with lust, greed, delusion, arrogance, and jealousy. Seligman (1994) observed ?People who often get angry use up their allotted [heart] beats faster? (p. 125). He also observed

Anger galvanizes some people into clever repartee and resourceful argument?they become masters of the ?last word.? For most of us anger is a very disorganizing emotion. We fume and we sputter. We forget our most important points. (p. 127)

The studies discussed here were conducted within a university setting using paid student volunteers who were aware that they were participating in an experiment. In a university experiment, student volunteers may be more willing to put up with angry feedback than employees. Should we administer a questionnaire on epistemic motivation to all employees and then decide whom we can get angry at to motivate creativity? Should the employees sign an informed consent form at the time of hiring that managers can give angry feedback as needed with a certain type of people? Should there be a course on anger enhancement for creativity?

Angry feelings may be taxing to the experiencer and angry feedback may be taxing to both givers and receivers. Workplaces demand civility from managers and employees, and would it not be better to find ways of providing creativity enhancing feedback in a civil manner?

Video games are the next big thing in entertainment. The video game industry is the largest entertainment industry in the world. It supplies consumers that cross all spectrums of race, class, and economic levels. People simply love the interactive qualities that the experience when they are playing their favorite game. Not many forms of entertainment or interactive.

This is what gives video games their edge. Games are designed specifically with the user in mind, and are programmed in such a way that they evoke a feeling of accomplishment, as well as a strong feeling of satisfaction whenever they are played.

There are several different types of platforms that are available for the game of your choice. Each platform has its pros and cons and it's risen. People usually choose the platform that has more of the types of games that they like to play.

A new factor in the video game industry is online gaming. Gamers want to be able to match their skills with friends and other like minded individuals who are not in the same room as they are. Online gaming allows players to play against each other using a high speed broadband Internet connection that makes for a truly interactive and real estate experience.

Also do not underestimate the talent that the video game industry has recruited. They are known for hiring only the very best when it comes to conceptual design and real estate and programming of their products. Not to mention that salaries within this industry and to be at the higher end of technology salaries. The work is generally considered to be fun and it is definitely profitable.

The video game industry prospers because of one simple model. The customer is always right. Find out what the customer wants and give it to them. If the customer does not like any aspect of the game, then as a modified or remove it. When used a mime think about it this is one of the few industries that acts in this manner. Many industries are really only talk about customer satisfaction and customer feedback but they do an awful job of following through with it.
