WATCH LIVE: Senate IDC hosts hearing on campaign-finance reform

The breakaway caucus of four Democrats in the state Senate is hosting its first hearing in a series on campaign-finance reform, taking testimony from advocates and regulators in Manhattan this afternoon.

The Independent Democratic Conference hearing, which comes a few weeks after the caucus proposed an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink anti-corruption plan, kicked off at 3 p.m. Representatives from various good-government groups and the New York City Campaign Finance Board are expected to testify.

The IDC, led by Sen. Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, heads to Rockland County on Thursday, where the group will host its second hearing at the Valley Cottage Library at 3 p.m.

Talk of campaign-finance reform in Albany has heated up since early April, when then-IDC member Sen. Malcolm Smith, D-Queens, and Assemblyman Eric Stevenson, D-Bronx, were arrested in connection with separate bribery schemes. Both have said they will be exonerated.
