Universal and Montecito Picture Co. are hoping to develop a doozy of a follow-up to the 1988 hit comedy that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito that would reunite the two stars.

But wait, there?s a twist: In the new scenario, Eddie Murphy would act as a third brother.

Titled "Triplets," the story would see Schwarzenegger and DeVito as brothers Julius and Vincent, conceived experimentally, who discover they have third sibling.

The project doesn?t have a director at this early stage -- Ivan Reitman, who helmed the original, would only act as a producer with his Montecito Picture Co. cohorts Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell, according to sources -- but the hunt is on for writers to develop the idea. Insiders caution that no substantial creative discussions have taken place between Universal and Montecito.

The actors are attached to star.

This wouldn?t be the first sequel to an 1988 film that Universal is working. The studio is developing a sequel to "Midnight Run" that sees Robert De Niro, one of the film?s two original stars along with Charles Grodin, returning in an incarnation to be directed by Brett Ratner.

Brightcove started trading Feb.17 on the Nasdaq. The company sees a sizable growth opportunity at more than $5.8 billion by 2015 at a CAGR of 26 percent from 2011.

In terms of business model, Brightcove prices its products on a subscription basis or as software as a service (SaaS) as it lowers the upfront risk of deploying an in-house, perpetual-based software license solution on top of either new or existing hardware.

The robustness of the product and subscription model has built a highly diversified customer base of over 3,872 in 50 different countries which represents less than 1 percent of potential customers.

"We believe that when corporations weigh the costs and complexities of building a video content distribution platform and the numerous shortcomings of video-sharing Web sites, they are likely to realize that turning to an outside video content distribution platform provider, such as Brightcove, makes the most sense for their video libraries," Breza noted.

The analyst noted that the company has high customer retention as the recurring dollar? rate has been in excess of 93 percent in each quarter of 2011, and trended above 86 percent in each quarter of 2010.

In addition, Brightcove has significant international operations and presence for a company of its size and maturity. During 2011, more than half of all Video Cloud video streams were to international locations. In 2011, the company generated approximately 34 percent of its revenue from customers located outside of North America, up from 32 percent in 2010.

"We expect the current and additional international opportunities to represent a significant area of growth and to trend toward a 50/50% mix over the long term," the analyst said.

Brightcove's total revenue has progressed from $8.5 million in 2007 to $24.5 million, $36.2 million, and $43.7 million in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively. Revenue in 2011 totaled approximately $63.6 million, which reflects a year-over-year growth rate of approximately 46 percent.

Breza expects about 21 percent growth in 2012 and believe the company can accelerate its revenue growth rate to approximately 32 percent in 2013.

"Given the early stage of its growth profile, Brightcove has yet to turn a profit, but we estimate that should change over the next several years as the company ramps up and scales against its expense base," said Breza, who has an "outperform" rating on Brightcove shares.

Houston Bar Association Will Host ?Will-A-Thon? To Help Elderly ...

The Houston Bar Association?s Elder Law Committee will sponsor a Will-A-Thon to provide simple wills and basic medical directives, free of charge, for elderly citizens who meet the income guidelines.

To apply for assistance through the Will-A-Thon, senior citizens must call 713-228-0735 from 9 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., by April 6, to complete a screening application over the phone. To qualify, applicants must be Harris County residents 60 years of age or older and meet the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program low-income guidelines.

Those who qualify will be given an appointment to meet with a volunteer attorney on April 17 at the Third Ward Multi-Purpose Center, 3611 Ennis in Houston. The documents will be completed on May 15 at the Third Ward Multi-Purpose Center.

The Houston Bar Association?s Elder Law Committee provides free legal services and advice to senior citizens in Harris County, as well as free handbooks on Elder Law.

Genes for learning, remembering, forgetting

Certain genes and proteins that promote growth and development of embryos also play a surprising role in sending chemical signals that help adults learn, remember, forget and perhaps become addicted, University of Utah biologists have discovered.

"We found that these molecules and signaling pathways [named Wnt] do not retire after development of the organism, but have a new and surprising role in the adult. They are called back to action to change the properties of the nervous system in response to experience," says biology Professor Andres Villu Maricq, senior author of the new study in the March 30 issue of the journal Cell.

The study was performed in C. elegans ? the millimeter-long roundworm or nematode ? which has a nervous system that serves as a model for those of vertebrate animals, including humans.

Because other Wnt pathways in worms are known to work in humans too, the researchers believe that Wnt genes, the Wnt proteins they produce and so-called "Wnt signaling" also are involved in human learning, memory and forgetting.

"Almost certainly what we have discovered is going on in our brain as well," Maricq says. And because a worm nerve-signal "receptor" in the study is analogous to a human nicotine receptor involved in addiction, schizophrenia and some other mental disorders, some of the genes identified in the worm study "represent possible new targets for treatment of schizophrenia and perhaps addiction," he adds.

Wnt genes and their proteins already were known to "pattern the development and distribution of organs in the body" during embryo development, and to be responsible for various cancers and developmental defects when mutated, he says.

Maricq conducted the study with these Utah biologists: doctoral students Michael Jensen and Dane Maxfield; postdoctoral researchers Michael M. Francis, Frederic Hoerndli and Rui Wang; undergraduate Erica Johnson; Penelope Brockie, a research associate professor; and David M. Madsen, a senior research specialist. The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.

Synapse Plasticity is the Basis of Learning and Memory

Synapses are the connections between nerve cells (neurons). Nerve signals are transmitted through synapses. Learning and memory concern how these connections are made, broken, strengthened or weakened. Proteins known as receptors are delivered to the synapses or removed from them to strengthen or weaken the connection.

In the new study, Maricq and colleagues identified a "Wnt signaling pathway" ? a series of genes and the proteins they produce ? that controls the strength of nerve signal transmission from one neuron through a synapse to the next neuron. This allows "plasticity" of synapses ? a key factor in learning, retaining memories and forgetting.

"The adult nervous system is not a stagnant tissue, but rather dynamic and plastic, with the strength of synapses ? specialized neuron-to-neuron connections ? changing with experience, learning and memory," Maricq says. "It's not a fixed thing, like when you're done making the heart, you're done."

When synapses and thus incoming nerve signals are strengthened by adding receptors, an organism learns and remembers; when the opposite occurs, the organism forgets, he adds.

How is that connection strengthened or weakened? When one neuron sends a nerve signal to another neuron, the first neuron releases a chemical known as a neurotransmitter, which moves through the synapse connecting the two cells and attaches or binds to receptors on the surface of the second neuron.

"You can think of the receptors like amplifiers, like hearing aids," Maricq says.

The volume of the received nerve signal depends on the number of receptors, which are stored in a supply depot just below the nerve cell's surface.

The Wnt signaling identified in the new study "tells the depot to put more receptors into the synapse ? or not," says Maricq.

He emphasizes that the Wnt chemical signal is different than the actual nerve signal carried by a neurotransmitter chemical, which in the new study was acetylcholine. The Wnt signal "is a secondary signal that controls the volume of the neurotransmitter signal," Maricq says.

Worms Reveal Details of Nerve Signal Volume Control

By crippling various genes in the worms, the researchers identified the "signaling pathway" by which a Wnt protein in one nerve cell sends a chemical signal to another cell telling it to increase the number of receptors on its surface, thus increasing the strength or volume of nerve signals between the cells.

The type of nerve-signal receptor in the study is an acetylcholine receptor named ACR-16. When researchers crippled the gene that makes the ACR-16 receptor protein, there were not enough receptors, so nerve signals were disrupted and the worms "had uncoordinated movement," Maricq says. "They were semi-paralyzed."

The scientists found mutations of other genes that also resulted in inadequate ACR-16 receptors and impaired the worms' movement. They discovered such genes belong to the "Wnt signaling pathway" that puts enough receptors on the cell surface so signals can be received.

Besides ACR-16, genes in that pathway produced proteins named CWN-2 ? which is a Wnt protein ? LIN-17, CAM-1 and DSH-1.

Here is how that pathway controls the volume of incoming nerve signals:

• A neuron releases CWN-2, which binds onto a receptor protein on the signal-receiving cell. That protein is a newly discovered combination of the LIN-17 and CAM-1 proteins.
• The LIN-17/CAM-1 protein sends a signal to a protein called disheveled, or DSH-1.
• "DSH-1 somehow sends the volume-control signal" that dispatches more ACR-16 receptors from depots inside the second neuron to that cell's surface, thus boosting the volume of the received nerve signal, Maricq says.

• The researchers used a green jellyfish protein to mark the ACR-16 receptors so they were visible under a microscope. When any of the genes in the Wnt signaling pathway were mutant, the scientists could see the green-labeled receptors accumulate under the surfaces of nerve cells instead of moving to the surface.

  Another experiment recorded electrical currents in worm nerve synapses and found it was smaller when any of the Wnt pathway genes were mutated. The smaller current ? reflecting impaired nerve-signal transmission ? explains why the mutant worms were partially paralyzed.

  Human Version of Worm Receptor Tied to Mental Disorders

  The ACR-16 acetylcholine receptor is the worm version of the alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in humans and other vertebrates. Both are similar in structure and function in animals from worms to fruit flies, mice and people.

  The alpha-7 receptor "is important in schizophrenia and a number of different mental disorders, and may have a role in addiction, but we don't understand how it's regulated," Maricq says.

  Many existing psychiatric drugs modify synapse strength. The new study suggests research should be done to show if the same Wnt signaling genes in worms also control alpha-7 receptor levels on human brain cells. If so, new drugs might be developed to target those genes as a way to treat mental disorders, including addiction.

  "Addiction is like learning at a primitive level," Maricq says. "Addiction means that somewhere in your brain, synapses are too strong. So you want more."

All About Board Games: Play Board Games for Family Fun - Family

There are a lot of different types of games that people play. There are online games and home video game systems, but it seems that one type of game that used to be played a lot is not as "in the spotlight" as it used to be. These are board games, and although they have seemed to drop in popularity a bit over the past few years they are still great fun to play, especially in a family friendly environment. Everyone that loves board games has their favorites, but here are a few that I love to play.

1. Monopoly - This is the old standby board game that almost everyone has heard of. It is a board game that is generally played for long periods of time and has to do a little bit with the roll of the dice and a lot with strategy of buying real estate (the squares on the playing board) The game is won when one individual owns everything and the other players are totally flat broke. This game has been played in marathon sessions where the company actually had to fly in additional monopoly money.

2. Parcheesi - Here is a great old board game that is a lot of fun to play and doesn't require much brain power (sorry if that offends anyone). You roll the dice and move your piece around the board. The first person to reach the goal wins, but you need to reach that goal with an exact roll of the die.

There are many other board games that can be played, but these are a few that will get you started. If you love these games then you are in good company. If you've never tried them then I suggest getting them and try having a family night where you play them together. You might find that you actually enjoy each others company.

FTC seeks laws to reveal what data brokers hold

NEW YORK (AP) ? The Federal Trade Commission is calling for legislation that would give citizens access to the information that commercial data brokers store about them.

The proposal is an unusually tough one from an agency that prefers to coax companies into adopting voluntary principles. A month ago, Obama administration officials outlined a proposed "Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights" and urged technology companies, consumer groups and others to jointly craft new protections.

In a privacy report released this week, the FTC is urging the adoption of a law that would let consumers access and dispute personal data held by information brokers, similar to the way consumers today have free access to their credit reports.

The report comes as the business of background checks is booming. An investigation by The Associated Press last year found that data brokers often store incorrect or outdated information, including criminal records. That meant some people were denied jobs because data brokers incorrectly reported them as convicted felons.

The commission called on data brokers to create a centralized website where they identify themselves and disclose how they collect and use consumer data.

"Consumers are often unaware of the existence of these entities, as well as the purposes for which they collect and use data," Monday's report said.

The FTC recommended basing legislation on a bill that was passed by the House in 2009, but died in the Senate.

?Pets as Pawns? study underlines the strong link between animal cruelty and domestic and family violence in New Zealand. The research also showed that 50% of women interviewed had witnessed animal cruelty as part of their experience of domestic violence. The study was jointly?commissioned by the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Women?s Refuge.

This research shows the urgent need for New Zealand?s SPCA and Women?s Refuge to work together to find solutions to make families safer by enabling them to leave violent situations with their animals, says RNZSPCA National Chief Executive Robyn Kippenberger.

The research included direct interviews with 30 refuge clients who had witnessed or were forced to take part in animal cruelty as part of family violence.?The ?research also involved surveying 203 Women?s Refuge clients. Of these 203 women, 111 (55%) stated that animal cruelty was part of their experience of family violence as, at some point, either a family member or their partner had threatened to kill one of their pets, animals and/or farm animals.

A third of the respondents also reported actual injury of death of the animal.

As a result, deciding when and how to leave a relationship that included cruelty to animals became more complex. Twenty-eight percent of women reported they would have left their abusive relationship earlier if they had not had a pet or animal. The length of time they stayed ranged from one week to 22 years with an average of two years.

The research also uncovered information about how children witnessed animal cruelty. Of the 159 research participants with children, a quarter reported that their children had witnessed someone in their family injure or kill a pet or animal. The research is available from the websites of the RNZSPCA and Women?s Refuge.

Disturbingly, many of the women reported that partners who had warnings or convictions around physical violence, would deliberately threaten or hurt pets as a way of controlling their family and make it easier to avoid reconviction, says Heather Henare, chief executive of Women?s Refuge.

?In this way, pets and other animals become part of an arsenal of tricks abusers use to instil fear and control over their family.

Some men will threaten to kill family pets if the woman leaves, and in some cases women and children have witnessed extreme torture of pets or animals as part of the horror of domestic violence.?

Other key findings from the research:

1. Many women had the impression their pet would be euthanized if left with the SPCA while she escaped domestic violence, this is incorrect. RNZSPCA euthanasia practices?should be widely circulated to remove public misconceptions.

2. Women are often locked into their relationships because they cannot find alternative accommodation (i.e. landlords who do not allow pets)

3. Research showed mechanisms need to be developed to assist women without transport or funds to surrender or place their animals in the SPCA?s care

4. The animals most likely to be hurt are dogs (45%); cats (33%); cows (8%) and birds (6%)

5. Issues of ownership need to be investigated, as if the animal is registered in the abusers name, they will have precedence over the animal in current law

Military homecomings?are the kinds of moments families will always hold dear. And when a soldier returns from Afghanistan and transforms into Captain America to surprise his two young sons, we are all reminded of how precious and moving such reunions can be.

The video is a recent addition to the Welcome Home Blog ("the No. 1 site for videos of surprise military homecomings"), which has 30,295 subscribers, but its 400+ videos have been viewed nearly 87 million times.?

In this video, a young boy dressed as Captain America answers the doorbell with his younger brother (dressed in PJs) close behind. To his surprise, it's a full-size Captain America!?

The boy has no idea it's his father, who he thinks is still in Afghanistan, until the unmasking at breakfast. Watch how he and his brother react, and see if you're not grateful, just a little bit, that we can be witness to an intimate family moment such as this.

Forget hoops, NFL has March Madness

March Madness is all about the NFL this year.

From Peyton Manning in Denver to Tim Tebow in New York.

From Sean Payton getting suspended for New Orleans' bounty system to Saints players awaiting possible punishment for participating in it.

Not to mention the other big free agent signings. How did Mario Williams wind up in Buffalo? Answer: There's 100 million reasons.

How about Calvin Johnson's $132 million deal through 2019 with the Lions, merely the richest contract in NFL history, with Megatron getting $60 million guaranteed?

No matter what happens in the NCAA basketball tournament, with the Final Four in the Big Easy of all places, it can't top what the NFL has produced in March.

And that's with the draft, usually the focal point of the offseason, still a month away.

It has become impossible to escape NFL headlines pretty much since the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl - that was Feb. 5. The next meaningful pro football game is more than five months away.

The past two weeks, in particular, have been off the charts for NFL interest.

"Fans love it and they crave it," said Rich Gannon, the 2002 NFL Most Valuable Player and now a host on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "They don't want an offseason and there hasn't really been one, from the Super Bowl and the one-month buildup to the combine and free agency, and then to everything lately.

"I took my car in for service and three guys there, all they were saying was what about the Saints? And then the Tebow stuff; I am not surprised by that at all. And Peyton in Denver."

In addition to the front-page news, there have been some offseason moves that would be a big deal - in any other year.

Example A: A massive trade of picks between Washington and St. Louis already has spiced up the draft, with the Redskins in position to land Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III (if Indy doesn't take him at No. 1 instead of Andrew Luck).

Example B: The same Redskins and their division-rival Cowboys, each get dinged for huge salary cap reductions by the league.

Rarely does anything in sports push The Big Dance off center stage. But all the NFL action has done just that.

No reason to think it will stop now, with penalties for Saints defensive players sure to come, if not by the end of this unpredictable month then quickly in April.

By then, the Senate Judiciary Committee could be holding a hearing about the bounties that led to Payton being suspended for the 2012 season; former assistant Gregg Williams, who ran the program and now is defensive coordinator in St. Louis, getting barred indefinitely; New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis suspended for eight games and Saints assistant Joe Vitt for six games; and the team stripped of two second-round draft picks and fined $500,000.

"Let's be real basic about it here," said Sen. Dick Durbin, who is calling the bounty hearing. "If this activity were taking place off of a sporting field, away from a court, nobody would have a second thought (about whether it's wrong). `You mean, someone paid you to go out and hurt someone?'

"It goes way beyond the rules of any sporting contest, at least team contest, to intentionally inflict harm on another person for a financial reward."

It does grab attention; scandals always do. So two of the NFL's transcendent quarterbacks came along to rescue the league's image a bit: Manning and Tebow.

Anytime a four-time MVP changes addresses, it's huge news. When that player never missed a start in 13 seasons before sitting out an entire year after four neck surgeries, interest is piqued a mile high.

"It is a huge plus to have a Peyton Manning on your roster," Broncos boss John Elway said upon signing Manning to a five-year contract worth $96 million if fulfilled.

And a huge plus to have him in the league to deflect some attention from the bad vibes surrounding the Saints.

Ditto for Tebow, whose job disappeared in Denver when Manning joined the Broncos. Where else for him to land but with the Jets, who seem determined to win the back pages of the New York tabloids while their co-inhabitants at the Meadowlands, the Giants, win Super Bowls.

The Jets' swift action - well, swift until there was an eight-hour delay as the Jets discovered a clause in Tebow's contract that would have cost them $5 million before it was renegotiated - shifted the glare away from the Saints, as well.

In the middle of all this, the Cowboys had $10 million of salary cap space stripped and the Redskins lost a whopping $36 million, spread over this year and next. Yet both have found ways to spend enough on free agents to fill some holes.

What chaos could be ahead? Plenty.

- New Orleans star quarterback Drew Brees has yet to reach agreement on a new contract and, given the Saints' precarious situation, imagine how ugly things might get if he ignores the franchise tag the team plunked on him and stays away from offseason workouts.

- With a rookie wage scale limiting financial investments, more blockbuster draft trades could happen. As it is, the Redskins mortgaged much of their future to move up four spots to get RG III. Yet, after his sensational pro day at Baylor, there's thought Griffin has become a challenger to Stanford's Luck as the top overall pick, owned by Indianapolis.

- Still out there ready to grab attention, if not many passes, is Terrell Owens. So might be Chad Ochocinco if the Patriots, as expected, release him. And Randy Moss, who didn't even play in the NFL in 2011 and was no factor the previous year, landed in San Francisco.

- Tebow vs. Mark Sanchez. Just wait until the incumbent stumbles, even momentarily, and the Big Apple is rocked by screams from Tebow's loyal legions.

- New jersey designs by Nike resemble the Oregon Ducks' varied uniforms, causing a surge to - or away from - the merchandise shelves.

At least there are no labor battles to be waged for 4 1/2 months by America's richest sports league and its players. Last year at this time, we were in the middle of the lockout. No one knew if the 2011 season would even happen.

"I think the NFL is in great shape," Manning said, "with some great owners, great coaches and great people in leadership."

Don't forget plenty of newsmakers.
