This year?s Moomba Masters International Invitational Water Skiing Championships will benefit thanks to a $20,000 funding boost announced today from the Victorian Government?s Significant Sporting Events Program.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty said the $20,000 grant would assist the Moomba Masters and help further promote the profile of Moomba and Melbourne as an events hub.
?This boost provides the perfect opportunity for our sporting capital to showcase its wonderful Yarra River, world class sports facilities, talent and tourist attractions to even more people by making the Moomba Masters the best ever.? Mr. Delahunty said.
?The Moomba Masters kicked off on Wednesday and continues right through the long weekend, and has attracted the world?s best water skiers.?
?Having the world?s best take to the Yarra not only provides for a great spectacle but also inspires future champions to take up the sport and keep active.?
Mr. Delahunty said Victoria?s exciting sporting events calendar, including events like the Moomba Masters, attracted millions of visitors to Victoria, provided a stimulus for the economy and boosted sports participation at a local level.
?Through initiatives like the Significant Sporting Events Program we can work together with local organisations and councils to develop and support a wide range of events like the Moomba Masters that help keep Victoria in the national and international spotlight.? Mr. Delahunty said.
?Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia, so it goes without saying that sport plays a vital role in Victorian communities. That?s why the Victorian Government continues to invest to attract, retain and develop the best events.?
Mr. Delahunty said the Victorian Water Ski Association was one of nine event organisers or councils to receive funding in the latest round of the Significant Sporting Events Program.
Mr. Delahunty also encouraged all those attending the Moomba Festival to visit the Premier?s Active Families Challenge marquee located in the Children?s Garden and sign up for the Challenge.
?The Premier?s Active Family Challenge is about encouraging all Victorians to take up the challenge of doing 30 minutes of exercise a day for 30 days over six weeks. It?s fun, it?s free and it?s a great way to get healthy and active.? Mr. Delahunty said.
