The Main Line area celebrated the Chinese New Year Sunday with a traditional celebration of music and dance at Great Valley High School in Malvern.
The Main Line Chinese Culture Center held the annual gala, which celebrates?this year the?Year of the?Snake on the Chinese lunar calendar.?

The event, free and?open to the public, included performances from?the center's students - children as well as adults.??
?Numerous local performance artists and hundreds of local children, teenagers, and their families? participated in a variety of stage performances.?Performances?included a Peking Opera sword dance, folk dances, traditional Chinese music, martial arts demo, songs, plays, and comedic skits.
State Senator Andy Dinniman (D-19th) remarked on the Main Line Culture Center's impact keeping Chinese traditions striving in the community.
"I'm here on behalf of myself and the Senate of Pennsylvania to give a citation to the Main Line Culture Center, thanking them for their outstanding work keeping Chinese culture alive and well here in Pennsylvania," said Dinniman, "and for sharing the culture not only with the Chinese community but with all of us here in Pennsylvania."
?A Culture Fair featured traditional Chinese games and crafts (chopsticks contest) and historical and cultural displays (such as the history of tea).
Based in Wynnewood, the Main Line Chinese?Culture Center is a nonprofit organization created to enhance language and cultural understanding?in the community.?MLCC offers instruction in Madarin language learning and traditional Chinese cultural arts. Continued...
