The wife of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason says she is now too scared to use her phone in public after she was mugged while walking her dogs.
Annette Mason had her iPhone snatched from her grasp by a bike-riding hoodie as she was trying to send a text.
Mrs Mason, 52, said the mugger, who wore a Puffa jacket, laughed as he rode off with the Apple device on Hampstead Heath in North West London. She screamed in vain for help.
Mrs Mason, an actress, was mugged as she walked her labradors Linka and Layla.
?All I saw was the back of a Puffa jacket and he was wearing a hoodie. It happened in half a second,? she said.
?I screamed, ?Knock him off his bike, he?s stolen my phone?, but no one heard me ? or if they did, they must have thought I was a nutter.
?A woman with a pushchair very sweetly lent me her phone so I could call my husband.? Mrs Mason also contacted the police to report the theft.
?Stupidly I hadn?t backed my phone up for a couple of weeks so I lost quite a lot of photos,? she said.
?The sad thing is I?ve always really enjoyed walking on the heath and considered it very safe, and now every cyclist that goes past I?m giving them a beady eye.
'I?ve started leaving my phone at home now, or if I take it with me I certainly don?t use it. It just makes you more fearful, which is such a shame.
?I used to use the time when I was walking to have a long chat with my elderly aunt and now I can?t do that, which is a shame for both of us.?
Mrs Mason, whose stage name is Annette Lynton, has appeared in TV programmes including Casualty, Minder and Crossroads. She said she had warned other users about the risks of using their iPhones on Hampstead Heath. Her son has also had his phone stolen, she said.
?
She urged Apple to find a way of making iPhones unusable if they are stolen.
?These phone companies have got a future and are making such a huge profit, so I?m sure they could put some money towards doing that,? she said.
The latest statistics reveal 170 iPhones are stolen every day in London, many of them from pedestrians targeted by muggers on bicycles.
