Usain Bolt missing from provisional list for London games this weekend

Melton Williams, Gleaner Writer

The world?s fastest man, Jamaica?s Usain Bolt, is missing from the provisional entry lists for the London 2012 Anniversary Games at the weekend.

The triple Olympic champion had been confirmed to run the 100 metres on Friday and the 4X100-metre relay on Saturday.

However, the provisional entry lists which were published today do not list Bolt's name.

The 26-year-old Bolt has not raced in Britain since 2009, when he last competed in the London Grand Prix, because of tax rules which would force him to give up a share of any appearance or prize money, plus a percentage of any endorsements.

However, an announcement in the Budget that 'non-resident athletes' will be exempt from income tax has removed that financial consideration and as a result Bolt in April Bolt made a commitment to compete.

Fifteen Jamaicans including two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are listed on the provisional entry lists.

Fraser-Pryce will compete in the women?s 100 metres on Saturday.

Kerron Stewart and Sheri-Ann Brooks are also down to run the short sprint.

The opening day features five Jamaicans.

Ristananna Tracey will be the first Jamaican in action when she competes in the women?s 400-metre hurdles.

Kimberley Williams will contest the women?s triple jump while Natoya Goule is down to run the women?s 800 metres.

London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Warren Weir, Nickel Ashmeade and Jason Young are listed to run the men?s 200 metres.
